EU: UNI-Finance asked financial groups to request extraordinary EWC meetings

Since the American financial crisis is moving on to the old continent, the European trade union federation UNI-Europa Finance asked its representatives on 51 European works councils in the finance industry to request extraordinary meetings without delay to discuss the impact of the financial crisis. This initiative was already taken by the two majorly hit banks : Fortis and Dexia. (Ref. 080736)

“The financial crisis is accelerating rapidly”, said Oliver Roethig, UNI Finance’s General Secretary. “We have a crisis of confidence in the finance industry among banks and insurance companies themselves, by customers and employees.” He is calling on companies to play the transparency card and convene their EWC for an extraordinary meeting within the next few days.…
