Germany: E.ON suspends economic layoffs until 2012

No economic layoffs until December 31, 2012. Staffing cuts needed for the savings program will be “subtle,” i.e. via gradual early retirement (Altersteilzeit), early retirement, non-renewal of fixed-term contracts, voluntary leave with compensation, natural fluctuation, transfers within the group, and so on. Hans Prufer, WC chairman, told Planet Labor that around 1,000 jobs should be cut this way in Germany.
