Italy: Fiom-CGIL mobilization on January 28th against Fiat’s maneuvers and to defend collective bargaining

“Today, hundreds of thousands of metalworkers, Fiom affiliates or not, are with us” said Maurizio Landini on Friday, January 28th in Milan, on a Piazza del Duomo swarming with people, to sum up turnout to the 18 regional and 4 provincial demonstrations from the north to the south of the country – including the cities of Fiat’s establishments (Turin, Massa, Cassino, Termoli, Pomigliano d'Arco, Melfi, Vibo Marina and Termini Imerese) – under the watchword “Work is a common good, we have to defend collective agreements and rights everywhere.”  Landini also announced that, at Fiat’s National Assembly on February 4-5, he would suggest the organization of an extraordinary campaign of talks in all businesses to determine ways to keep on mobilizing.  And he warned Federmeccanica and Confindustria that, if they follow Fiat’s path, “there will be an unprecedented conflict” in Italy.
