The meeting ended with the announcement of European support for the demonstration organized on July 23 by IG Metall at Erlangen (Germany) accompanied by a one-hour work stoppage on the site. The meeting was called after the announcement by Siemens management to cut 16,730 jobs including 5,250 in Germany (see article n° 080570), but the figure is set higher by the metal workers federation at 18,000, 30% being in Germany.
