Volkswagen : management could decide to produce Audis in Brussels, but only in 2009

According to sources close to the issue, VW could possibly have a new Audi model produced in Brussels-Forest, where 3400 jobs are threatened after VW decided to relocate the Golf production in Germany. Audi's CEO, Martin Wintekorn, is due to meet Belgian PM Guy Verhofstadt this week. But this scenario would come true only if trade unions agree to cut production costs, like in Germany. The European Metalworkers Federation (EMF) has held the first meeting of its Trade Union Coordination Group on VW. (Ref. 061196)
