Italy: 87.63% of employees of the former Carrozzerie Bertone accept the conditions set out by Fiat to save their job

"We won’t allow a divide between those who want to work and those who want to defend their rights, because we all started this fight together, and we will continue fighting together.  We won’t let anyone, particularly the company, make us responsible for not investing.”  This is how, during the workers’ meeting on May 2nd, before the beginning of the reference which ended on the night of May 3rd, Pino Viola, Fiom RSU representatives for the Officine Automobilistiche Grugliasco (former Bertone), invited workers to vote yes.  Saying that he didn’t agree with the content of Fiat’s proposals and urging the Fiom not to sign the agreement, he said that the RSU would sign the agreement if there were a majority of yes votes, but that, since they “failed to reach a good agreement combining work and rights,” Fiom representatives would resign the day after the results (which they did), to confirm their mandate with a new RSU election.  The outcome of this ‘tactic,’ 886 yes votes and 11 no votes for a total of 1,011 voters (for 1,096 claimants, 750 of them being Fiom members).
