H&M: signature on a global agreement in partnership with the ILO on sustainable global supply chains in the garment industry

Signed on September 15, 2014 this agreement is the first of its kind, forging a partnership between the retail-clothing company and the tripartite international organization. It covers industrial relations, wages, and training and skills development in the global supply chains in the garment industry. It applies to the supply chain for H&M (but not H&M own employees) and aims to establish positive industrial relations in all its strategic production markets.

In 2013, H&M strengthened cooperation with the ILO on the issues of industrial relations and wages in Cambodia. It also worked with the ILO on a training and skills development project in Bangladesh with the goal of improving the quality of work and productivity in the factories and enabling workers to have their skills officially recognized and valued. In the same year H&M also committed to a pilot project promoting fair wages in Bangladesh and Cambodia.
