Germany/ SPD backing a minimum salary Europe-wide. Although new leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, firmly rejected the notion of a European minimum salary, as called for by French President Emmanuel Macron in an opinion article at written at the beginning of March and printed in newspapers in each of the EU’s 28 Member States, the SPD party has in contrast placed this call at the center of its European Election campaign manifesto that was adopted in Berlin on 23 March during its European Congress meeting. “We are looking for a minimum European salary, established across the whole of Europe that is built upon each countries’ own economic wealth and that enables workers in each country to live decently.
