According to the ITUC, the World Bank made a step to promote the labor standards
The international trade-union Confederation (ITUC) informed, on December 15th 2006, that “the president of the World Bank, Paul Wolfowitz, announced the Bank’s decision that, in the future, projects funded by it would have to fully respect the core labour standards of the International Labour Organization (ILO). Spain: wood industry introduces a guide to CSR for the sector’s firms
The Spanish confederation of wood entrepreneurs (Confemadera) wants to promote a socially and ecologically responsible management. It has just introduced a “Guide for the promotion of social responsibility in Spanish firms of wood and furniture”, to encourage CSR practices in the sector. (Ref. 061200)

Stora Enso: unions condemn the unworthy reorganization of an European socially responsible firm
In October 2005, the Finnish paper producer group Stora Enso, as part of a European reorganization, decided to stop several machines on the French site of Corbehem, in the Pas-de-Calais. The unions, who will be demonstrating this Tuesday, November 7, in Brussels, blame it for going back on its commitment – to transfer those appliances to a corporate rescuer, which would have allowed saving 300 jobs. InBev accused of violating the guiding principles of OECD for global companies
The international Union of food, agriculture, hotel, restaurant and tobacco workers, and the related branches (IUF-UITA) has filed a complaint against the brewer at the OECD office in Belgium (where the company is registered). The IUF says InBev violates workers’rights, especially trade-union freedom. (Ref. 06736)

Belgium: Wallonie equips itself with a resources centre on the CSR
Whereas Flanders is already equipped with a similar tool, Wallonie has just opened a resources centre on the RSE over the Internet. Accessible to both Small and Large-size enterprises, the site centralises useful information and business experiences. (Ref. 06717)

Denmark: the employees of Dansk Supermarked want a real CSR policy
After the outcry caused by the broadcasting of a documentary on the working conditions within the chain’s Indian suppliers, the employees of the supermarket group Dansk Supermarked are asking the management to react and to really apply the principles of CSR. (Ref. 06677)

Nestle: the European work’s council challenges management on one of its suppliers
After the intervention of the European work’s council of Unilever last April (see enclosure), the European work’s council of Nestle, wrote to management in order to express concern over the possible presence of Musim Mas palm oil and oleochemicals in Nestle products . This action was supported by European and international trade-union federations of the agro-alimentary sector. (Réf. 06453)
