Ireland: workers granted 10 days of paid sick leave from 2026

On 29 March, the Irish government approved the Sick Leave Bill 2022, which will for the first time establish a legal framework for paid sick leave, paid by companies. Firms will from now on have to pay employees who are off sick at least 70% of their salary, up to a limit of €110 per day.

Once the Sick Leave Bill (see article n°12795) is passed by the Irish parliament (Houses of the Oireachtas) – a formality since the governing coalition parties have an absolute majority – Irish employees that have been with their company for at least 13 weeks will be eligible for statutory sick leave, funded by their employer.…
