Belgium: the government installs a reference framework on CSR

In Belgium, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is supported by a true political voluntarism. On April 28th, the government adopted a framework of reference on the subject. It shows the will of the Belgian government to integrate the elements of sustainable development in the business management. This framework should lead to an action plan which will be in charge of promoting and encouraging CSR practices. (Ref. 06442)

In September 2005, the Belgian federal executive power proposed a reference framework on CSR to the social partners and the stakeholders’ representatives. The document was submitted to the various advisory authorities. The Central Council of Economy, the National Labour Council and the Federal Council for Sustainable development put forward opinions between September 2005 and January 2006. Presently, the document is under a process of working out propositions which should follow the large consultation of the stakeholders’  representatives.
