France: Sanofi signs an agreement to promote retraining for those currently working in ‘sensitive’ ill-fated jobs

On 28 February 2022, the French pharmaceutical group together with three trade unions, namely the CFDT, CFE-CGC and CFTC (excluding the CGT) signed an employment and careers management agreement (GEPP- Gestion des Emplois et des Parcours Professionnels). The GEPP runs from June 2022 to December 2025 and provides for measures to support employees whose jobs are destined to disappear, to develop in-house job/careers mobility, and to support the employment of the group’s older employees.

Thus the goal of the signatories of the agreement, which affects almost 20,000 employees (the Group’s French businesses account for over a fifth of global headcount of 95,000). A joint body, (the Observatoire des métiers et de l’emploi / jobs and skills observatory) has been established to ‘enable discussions on the major trends in jobs and skills.’ A joint monitoring committee is set to meet annually, and the trade unions also secured the inclusion of review clause in the agreement, which the CFDT welcomes as a “first step towards a mature and responsible social dialogue”.…
