Germany: the road transport sector calls for national mobilization in order to combat the truck driver shortage

With Germany facing a growing shortage of truck drivers, the main transport employers' association (Bundesverband Güterkraftverkehr Logistik und Versorgung - BGV) has warned that in two or three years’ time, the country could find itself in a situation comparable to that of the United Kingdom and undergo ‘a collapse of its supply chain’. The BGV has urged politicians, industry and society to take immediate action to address the shortfall. Dirk Engelhardt, president of the employers’ federation, outlines for Planet Labor the action plan it presented on 07 October.
