Italy : a second food delivery company applies the national logistics collective agreement to its riders
Planet Labor, 26 July 2019, n°11247 -

On 22 July, a remarkable agreement was signed between the unions Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl and Uiltrasporti Firenze and Runner Pizza, a Florence-based food delivery company founded 25 years ago. 200 workers will be hired as part-time employees and paid in accordance with the national logistics convention, and replacing the previous “per delivery” payment system In July 2018 the social partners formulated a professional profile for bike delivery professionals (riders) in a move to include this category of worker in the sector’s national collective convention (see our article n°10772). These riders will also be entitled to all the other rights as prescribed by the national convention, including paid holidays, illness/injuries leaves and seniority wage increases, as well as the length of career as a non-salaried worker. Notably, the trade unions also negotiated within the agreement a highly significant issue in explicitly excluding any online “ranking mechanism” for assessing workers, which is one of the most debated and criticised features of the gig economy. This is the second such agreement signed by a company in the Tuscan capital. The first agreement covered twenty delivery workers.
