On 6 December, the European social dialogue committee for the postal sector adopted two joint declarations. The first covers the revision of the postal services directive and the second regards training workers in the digital age. In the second declaration, European social partners in the sector underline the importance of social dialogue when it comes to managing the transformation the sector is undergoing. This could involve transferring postal workers to parcel delivery roles, due to the rise of e-commerce, which the signatories describe as a “common feature for several postal companies”, or diversifying business activities “with the support of their existing workforce through the framework of national social dialogue”. Against this backdrop, the social partners commit to identifying digital skills that are useful for the sector, analysing the impact of digitalisation on the organisation of companies, as well as on working environments and conditions, and seeking to anticipate future transformations to ensure the best conditions for the sector.
