Telefonica: global agreement on the digital disconnection came at just the right time

The global agreement signed with global union federation UNI Global Union on the digital disconnection, which was penned at the end of 2018, was put into practice with the majority of the world's population subsequently confined to their homes. Speaking to Planet Labor, Teresa Casertano, head of the ICTS department at UNI Global Union, covered this most timely of implementations.

UNI Global Union has had a relationship with the Spanish telecommunications group for almost 20 years, since the first agreement on fundamental rights was signed by the two parties (the initial agreement was revised in 2015, see article n°8859).

The agreement on digital disconnection (see article n°10910) is an addendum to this global agreement and is therefore covered by its monitoring mechanism.

The efforts to reach an agreement were driven by Spanish trade unions who wanted to make the right to disconnect an issue on a global level.…
