The first inter-sector European agreement will soon be put into practice

The first inter-sector negotiation between European social partners has succeeded. It relates to crystalline silica, a issue which brought together two trade-union federations and 15 European employers' organizations. (Ref. 06223)

It is indeed a premiere in the history of European social dialogue. For Patrick Mazeau, deputy secretary-general of the EMCEF (European Mine, Chemical and Energy Workers’ Federation) who chaired the negotiations with Michelle Wyart-RĂ©my, secretary-general of Ima-Europe (European organization of industrial mineral producers), “this is the first autonomous agreement (i.e. not transformed into a directive like the Treaty allows it) concluded in the industry and the first to gather two important European trade-union federations”.…
