China: new professions and online vocational learning

Following Prime Minister Li Keqiang’s announcement at the end of May that the Chinese government was committed to funding more than 35 million vocational training courses in the coming year (c.f. article No.11970), an online vocational training platform for new digital professions was launched on 08 June the aim of which is to train 1 million digital professionals during its first year.

The project sees the China Employment Training Technical Instruction Center for China (CETTIC) under the Chinese Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security join forces with the private enterprise group Alibaba, (one of China’s four digital economy giants).

The online platform (xzy.mohrss.gov.cn) comprising web content and a mobile application that can be downloaded via a QR code can already let people to register for thirteen different diploma and qualification courses within the digital professions,…
