Following a decade of budget cuts, the minimum salary is for the first time set to increase, proving that a different path is indeed possible,” declared Greek PM Alexis Tsipras on 28 January 2019 at the close of the Council of Ministers meeting during which an increase to a pre-tax €650 per month was approved and comes after three consecutive EU bailout plans and eight years of economic crisis that saw the monthly pre-tax minimum salary fall a sharp 22% from roughly €791 in 2009 down to €586.
