Spain: the broad outline of the coming pensions reform

The Spanish government should conclude this week the negotiations with employers and the trade unions on the reform of the retirement pensions system. The agreement should be signed before next 9 June, but the broad outline was already revealed. (Réf. 06540)

The main aspects of the reform relate to the widow survivor’s pension, a longer contribution period, an improvement of the system of early retirements and an incentive to delay retirements. The Spanish retirement system, on which currently rely 8 million people, is fed by nearly 19 million social security contributors and accumulates a surplus higher than 1% of the country’s GDP.…
