Germany: first “social partnership model” for company pensions launched in energy sector National industrial relations Social partners representing a portion of the companies in Germany's energy sector struck an agreement at the end of October on an all-new model for company pensions, dubbed a "social partnership model" (Sozialpartnermodell). Among other things, this model removes the requirement for companies to guarantee contributors a specific payment level for their supplementary pensions. Although the law enabling such a model – the German act to strengthen occupational pensions – came into force on 1 January 2018, it is the first time one of this kind has been negotiated.
Italy: the new collective agreement for the gas and water sector defends purchasing power and promotes diversity National industrial relations Included as key features in the gas and water sector’s national collective agreement (NCA) that the relevant social partners signed on 30 September is an overall €220 wage increase over three years as well as progress on employee participation in company decisions and on diversity and inclusion. This NCA first requires approval by the relevant workers’ assemblies and then it will run retroactively from 01 January 2022 to 31 December 2024, covering some 47,000 workers in almost 400 companies.

Italy: the new collective agreement for the energy-oil sector innovates in terms of individual assessment National industrial relations On 21 July, the energy-oil social partners renewed the sector’s national collective agreement that runs retroactively from 01 January 2022 until 31 December 2024 and covers more than 40,000, including employees at the energy giant ENI. In it are major innovations such as an overall pay rise of €235 over three years, progress in terms of training and above all, fresh impetus for the sector’s specific individual performance assessment system.
Italy: new collective agreement in electricity sector emphasises value of people National industrial relations After six months of negotiations, social partners in Italy's electricity sector signed an agreement on 18 July that introduces a protocol on "the value of people in companies" into the national collective labour agreement (CCNL). The renewal of this agreement will also see a significant increase in minimum wages as well as advances on employee participation, training and new skills. Valid until 31 December 2024, the CCNL covers almost 60,000 people and now needs to be approved by employee assemblies.
France: Dalkia turns to Mailoop to reduce volume of email traffic between employees Quality of life at work In an initiative that pre-dated the Covid-19 pandemic, EDF Group's energy services subsidiary Dalkia embarked on a push to reduce the level of email correspondence among the 2,500 people employed by its branch in the Île-de-France region. With the help of start-up Mailoop, Dalkia has reduced the volume of emails sent and ensured an improved application of the right to disconnect. The two companies were handed the top prize for best innovation in human resources at the Newwork RHévolution event held on 5 July in Paris.
Italy: Terna launches a new participatory model of social relations Quality of life at work The protocol agreement signed in March 2022 by Terna (Italy’s power Transmission System Operator), and the trade unions includes the establishment of a ‘consultation committee on the group's strategic lines’ as well as the creation of two new joint bodies, one on welfare and the other on diversity and inclusion. The protocol agreement is part of the NexTerna program, which aims to create a new work organization supporting energy and digital transition.
Italy: Enel innovating labour relations by way of its ‘Status of the Person’ National industrial relations In paying attention to the profound transformations linked in particular to energy transition and digitalization, and in a bid to enhance the value of the individual in the workplace, state-controlled energy company Enel and the Filctem-Cgil, Flaei-Cisl and Uiltec trade unions have signed a protocol that sets out a framework for labour relations embracing numerous themes, including employee well-being, training, and, safety. The agreement also breaks new ground by extending its consideration beyond the company itself and towards the entire ‘ecosystem’ of suppliers and subcontractors.
